Athra Alliance candidate Ma’rib Imad Hanno joins festivities at Mar Behnam Feast, highlights resilience of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community in Baghdede, Iraq
BAGHDEDE, Iraq — Amid the joyous celebration of the Feast of Mar (Saint) Behnam and his sister Sarah in the Nineveh Plains town of Baghdede (Qaraqosh / Hamdaniya), Iraq, Athra Alliance candidate for the upcoming provincial elections from the Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA), Ma’rib Imad Hanno, actively participated in the festivities alongside the vibrant Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community.
The celebration, held under the auspices of Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Mosul Mar Benedict Younan Hanno, took place at the Monastery of Mar Behnam on Sunday.
In comments to Suroyo TV, Ma’rib Imad Hanno emphasized the significant turnout from Baghdede, Bartella, Karamlesh, and other areas, underscoring the profound attachment of the people to their ancestral land. He expressed how this broad participation serves as a testament to the resilience of the community, reaffirming their ambitions, hope, and commitment to life despite enduring immense difficulties, displacement, and tragic events such as the recent Baghdede wedding hall fire tragedy.
He also conveyed a powerful message to the diaspora, urging them to return to their ancestral roots and embrace their homeland. Hanno extended warm wishes to the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people, both within Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and abroad, for lives filled with goodness and peace, resilient against any tragedies or acts of terror.
