Patriarchs in Iraq meet with Program Executive for the Middle East of World Council of Churches; Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Aphrem II met with Hungary Helps Foundation official
ERBIL / BUDAPEST — On 13rd December, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mor Awa III Royel received Carla Khijoyan, the Program Executive for the Middle East of the World Council of Churches (WCC), and the Rev. Archdeacon Emmanuel Youkhanna, the CAPNI Executive Director.
Many topics, including membership of the Assyrian Church of the East in the WCC and commitment of the WCC to support the Patriarch and Church, were discussed.
Chaldean Patriarch Mor Luis Rafael Sako received at the Ankawa priestly monastery Carla Khijoyan, the Program Executive for the Middle East of the World Council of Churches (WCC).
The conversation focused on the situation of Iraqi Christians, their suffering and aspirations.
Ways to raise their morale and encourage them to adhere to homeland, create job opportunities for them and the need to unite church leaders to support the Christian presence, were also touched on.
In other news, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met with Tristan Azbej, Hungarian State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians and the Hungary Helps Program on Thursday morning, at his headquarters in Budapest.
The meeting was attended by Patriarchal Secretary Mor Augeen al-Khoury Nemat.
During the meeting, they talked about the projects carried out by the church with the support of the Hungarian government through the Hungary Helps Foundation.
