Christmas events begin in Nineveh Plains
ALQOSH, Iraq — A festive Christmas and New Year event organized by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Transition in the town of Alqosh, Iraq, in the heart of Nineveh Plains. The event brought together the community in a joyous celebration.
Chaldean Archbishop Bulos Thabet, leading the event, presided over a solemn procession that commenced at the Archbishopric’s gate. The Archbishop, against the backdrop of heartfelt prayers, recited the angel’s Annunciation to the Virgin Mary. The atmosphere resonated with hymns and biblical verses, creating a spiritually uplifting experience for all participants.
The procession culminated at the Church of Mar Qardag, where the Christmas grotto and tree awaited unveiling. Alqosh youth, supported by the dedicated team of Shraga Alqosh and with partial assistance from the Salt Foundation, meticulously completed the festive decorations.
Archbishop Bulos Thabet bestowed his blessings upon the grotto and, in a poignant moment, lit candles in memory of the martyrs of the Baghdede wedding hall fire. He urged attendees to visit the grotto and kindle candles in honor of the fallen.
Post-unveiling, sweets prepared by the Brotherhood of the Immaculate Heart and Women’s Meeting were distributed among the celebrants.
The event drew a significant gathering, including Alqosh Church Khuroyo Rudy Safar, Head of the Monastery of Our Lady Father John Nikola, Priest of Alqosh Church Suleiman Hanna, Father Arkan Hakim, Father Hormuz Shamoun, along with monks, nuns, deacons, and a multitude of devoted believers. The occasion not only marked a spiritual milestone but also underscored the unity and communal strength within Alqosh.
