U.S. officials visit the Middle East to discuss attacks against U.S. forces

MIDDLE EAST — In a meeting on Wednesday, President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) Nechirvan Barzani discussed with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, the attacks on the bases of the U.S.-led International Coalition in Iraq.

The two sides stressed the importance of protecting the security and safety of diplomatic missions and the U.S. and U.S.-led International Coalition forces in Iraq.

They also agreed that the concerned Iraqi authorities should take the necessary measures to stop the targeting of U.S. missions and troops.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin inspected the USS Gerald R. Ford Aircraft Carrier located in the eastern Mediterranean.

Austin visit coincides with the U.S. efforts to counter Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea.
