Syriac Union Party condemns Turkish attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in North and East Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Amidst the ongoing Turkish airstrikes targeting civilians and infrastructure in North and East Syria that has left at least a dozen people dead and even more wounded, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) Sanharib Barsom strongly denounced the attacks, highlighting the concerning timing of these assaults, which coincided with the ratification of the social contract and the fourth Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) conference. Barsom emphasized that the deliberate targeting poses a severe threat to the region’s stability.
Expressing grave concern over the repeated assaults on infrastructure, Barsom called upon the international community, especially the United States and Russia, to exert pressure on Turkey to halt these attacks. In comments to SyriacPress, Barsom urged swift intervention to curtail the Turkish aggression, citing the negative impact on the daily lives of civilians and the resultant instability in the region.
Against the backdrop of the ongoing attacks, he drew attention to the celebration of Christmas by the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, emphasizing the severe threat the assaults pose to their existence and the celebration of religious holidays.
Highlighting the SUP’s commitment to instilling confidence and resilience in the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community, Barsom emphasized their historical ties to the land and their determination to counter Turkey’s imperialistic ambitions. He reiterated the party’s principles, advocating for the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people’s right to defend their historical land and actively participate in Syria’s political and democratic transition towards a decentralized, pluralistic democracy.
