Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Amsih condemns Turkish attacks in North and East Syria as violation of humanitarian standards

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih denounced the ongoing attacks by Turkey on North and East Syria targeting vital civilian infrastructure, characterizing them as blatant violations of religious principles, humanitarian conventions, and human rights standards.

In an interview with Hawar News Agency, Archbishop Amsih underscored the distinct challenges faced this year, marked by ongoing global conflicts targeting entire populations and their diverse components. He lamented that Turkey continues its relentless attacks on the people of the region, compromising their safety and well-being.

The Turkish occupation’s recent onslaught on North and East Syria involved indiscriminate targeting of factories, economic institutions, and hospitals, with the apparent intent of dismantling the region’s infrastructure and disrupting essential sources of life.

Archbishop Amsih expressed deep concern over Turkey’s escalated attacks on Christmas Day, highlighting that all components of the population were subjected to indiscriminate aggression.

In concluding his statement, Archbishop Mor Maurice Amsih offered prayers for the Syrian people, especially those displaced from their homes. He extended condolences to the families of the martyrs and wished a swift recovery for the wounded, underscoring the urgent need for international attention and intervention to address the dire situation in North and East Syria.
