Mourners gather at Virgin Mary Church in Qabre Hewore, North and East Syria, for funeral prayer of Syriac Military Council Martyr Aram

QABRE HEWORE, Syria — In a somber ceremony, the funeral prayer for the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulhoyo Suryoyo, MFS) member Shamoun Nidal Shamoun, nom de guerre Aram, who passed away on the first day of the new year, took place at the Virgin Mary Church in Qabre Hewore (Qahtaniyah), North and East Syria.

The prayer service was led by the Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih, who presided over the ceremony attended by a delegation from the civil and military institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB), the martyr’s family, and a large gathering of the town’s residents.

During the funeral prayer, Archbishop Amsih commemorated the life of Martyr Aram, highlighting his virtues as a good person, a deacon actively participating in Church events, and someone with commendable morals. The Archbishop extended his heartfelt condolence to the martyr’s family and comrades in the Syriac Military Council (MFS).

Moriel Hanna, an official from the Religious Education Center in Qabre Hewore, spoke about the balanced and good-natured qualities of Martyr Aram, emphasizing his contributions to the Education Center.

The funeral service for Martyr Aram, who joined the MFS in 2017, took place on Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the Mary Virgin Church in Qabre Hewore, drawing a community together in grief to honor the memory of a dedicated individual who sacrificed his life in service.
