Women’s organizations denounce Turkish crimes against women in North and East Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Women’s organizations in North and East Syria have strongly condemned the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation and its Syrian National Army (SNA) proxies, with the most recent atrocity being the issuance of sentences of life imprisonment sentences against kidnapped women.
The Turkish occupation authority, perpetuating crimes ranging from murders and kidnappings to imposing taxes and confiscating property, continues its systematic violations against the people of North and East Syria. These actions not only displace communities but also aim to alter the demographic makeup of the region.
In a shocking development, “courts” affiliated with the Turkish occupation handed down death sentences for two kidnapped women and life imprisonment for eight others. This distressing information was reported by the Violations Documentation Center.
Responding to these grave offenses, women’s organizations in North and East Syria released separate statements vehemently condemning the crimes and violations committed by the Turkey and the SNA, particularly targeting women in the occupied territories.
The statements from women’s organizations emphasized that the Turkish occupation is systematically engaging in brutal violations against women, particularly in occupied Cafrin (Afrin). They expressed concern over the escalating daily violations, criticizing the apparent silence of human rights organizations in the face of these atrocities.
Furthermore, women’s organizations underscored that the attempts by Turkey to establish so-called “courts” in the occupied territory are illegitimate and blatantly contravene international laws, conventions, and human rights.
In a collective call to action, women’s organizations urged human rights organizations to intervene promptly, putting an immediate halt to all violations against the people in the occupied territories, with a special emphasis on protecting women. They called for a decisive stance against these gross violations of human rights.
