Bethnahrin Women’s Union honors Martyr Ishtar as guiding light for Syriac women’s struggle
BETH NAHRIN — Commemorating the anniversary of the martyrdom of Alaria Ishtar, a member of the Bethnahrain Women’s Protection Force (Ḥaylawotho d’Sutoro d’Neshe d’Beth Nahrin, HSNB), the Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB) issued a statement titled “Martyr Ishtar is Beacon of Our Path.”
The statement, emphasizing the enduring sacrifices for human, national, and religious rights, highlighted the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people’s historical commitment to freedom. The establishment of the Beth Nahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) marked a transformative chapter, focusing on serving the nation, society, and especially women for their development.
The HNB underscored the numerous sacrifices made by martyrs over time, emphasizing their role as beacons and unquenchable flames illuminating the path of national struggle.
Following the philosophy of the MUB President Comrade Naim Michael Hadodo, historic steps have been taken to achieve gender equality.
The formation of the HSNB enabled Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) women to actively combat the Islamic State (ISIS), breaking free from centuries of oppression. With unwavering determination, Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) women, under the umbrella of HSNB, played a crucial role in safeguarding parts of their homeland through the Sutoro (Syriac Security Forces) Women.
The HNB declared their commitment to the multifaceted struggle for Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) women’s rights, representing them in political, organizational, and social spheres. Their belief in fighting across all fields to achieve equality was unequivocally stated.
On the anniversary of Comrade Alaria Ishtar’s martyrdom, the HNB expressed admiration and respect for HSNB. The sacrifice of Alaria Ishtar marks a pivotal moment in the history of Syriac women, symbolizing a commitment to unity and relentless work until the liberation of the Syriac people.
“With full awareness and faith, we declare our readiness for martyrdom to achieve equality and secure the rights of Syriac people and Syriac women. Martyr Alaria Ishtar will persistently live through our works, as we pledge to unite and strive until the liberation of the Syriac people,” concluded the HNB statement.
