Turkish attacks on North and East Syria violate international law, say international organizations and political parties
YEREVAN / NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In a blatant disregard for international laws, Turkey persists in its brutal assault on civilians and military personnel in North and East Syria, prompting global condemnation for these actions.
The Constituent Body of the National Supreme Council of Western Armenia, a government in exile representing Armenians and their descendants displaced from what is now Turkey during the Armenian Genocide, has called the Turkish attacks as crimes against humanity, expressing profound concern over the recurring assaults targeting civilians and critical infrastructure. The Body warned that such actions will only intensify the suffering of the Syrian people across its diverse ethnic landscape.
Calling for a united front, the Body urges Armenians in Western Armenia’s diaspora to take up national responsibility, rallying cooperation with all forces dedicated to defending their right to survival and reclaiming their homeland. The call emphasizes the prevention of a repetition of the Armenian Genocide and displacement.
Saleh Muslim, Co-Chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), asserted that Turkey’s assaults on infrastructure and service institutions in North and East Syria are aimed at undermining the will of the people and eradicating their projects. Muslim called on the region’s inhabitants to organize against these racist strategies, underscoring that the Turkish attacks are geared towards reviving the threat of the Islamic State (ISIS).
