Bethnahrin National Council official Sobhi Aksoy denounces Turkish Attacks on North and East Syria, accuses Turkey of pursuing demographic change and spreading extremist ideology
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Member of the Presidential Body of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB) Sobhi Aksoy condemned the repeated Turkish attacks on North and East Syria, characterizing them as part of a larger agenda for demographic change and the propagation of extremist ideology in areas under governed by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES).
In an interview with Suroyo TV, Aksoy emphasized that the Turkish attacks represent a calculated effort to displace and alter the demographic composition of North and East Syria. He contends that the ultimate goal is to disseminate extremist ideologies and foster the growth of terrorist groups affiliated with the Turkish occupation.
Aksoy further expressed the MUB’s denunciation of the Turkish attacks, stressing that these assaults directly target the lives and livelihoods of citizens. He asserted that the underlying motive is to sow discord between DAARNES and the people it serves.
Highlighting the complex geopolitical landscape, Aksoy pointed out the challenges faced by the United States in taking a definitive position against Turkey. He noted the delicate balance the US must navigate due to Turkey’s status as a NATO ally while acknowledging conflicting interests concerning Turkey’s Middle East policy.
Undeterred by external challenges, Aksoy underscored the resilience of the people of North and East Syria. He asserted that they possess the necessary will, capabilities, and political as well as military strength to defend themselves. Grounding their resistance in a national struggle, the people express a collective desire for peaceful coexistence and security in the region.
