Turkey exploiting displaced Syrian youth, sending proxies to Niger for military operations
NIAMEY — Exploiting the dire living conditions of displaced individuals in camps within Turkish-controlled Syrian territories, Turkey is allegedly recruiting youth as proxies, compelling them to engage in military operations beyond Syria’s borders. This follows previous instances where Turkey deployed such proxies in conflicts in Libya and Azerbaijan.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that a fresh wave of a thousand Syrian mercenaries is set to depart Turkish camps, primed for deployment and combat in Niger to advance Turkish interests.
According to SOHR, these proxies are reportedly associated with the notorious Sultan Murad Brigade, enticed by salaries of up to 1,500 USD per month.
An additional batch of five thousand mercenaries is purportedly in the pipeline, with the Turkish Army overseeing their training sessions in Niger as part of the preparation for their upcoming military engagements.
