Chaldean Church in Baghdad celebrates ordination of deacons and deaconesses in joyous ceremony
BAGHDAD — In a spirit of reverence and joy, the Chaldean Church of the Virgin Mary in Baghdad, Iraq, marked a significant occasion as Patriarch Assistant Bishop Mar Basilius Yaldo officiated the ordination of a diverse group of deacons and deaconesses.
Coinciding with the Feast of Saint Stephen, the Church in the Al-Mansour neighborhood hosted the ordination ceremony, welcoming the consecration of 12 individuals, comprising 7 readers and 5 missionaries.
Bishop Mar Basilius Yaldo led the mass, joined by Bishop Mar Shalemon Wardoni, and a distinguished gathering that included members of clergy and families of the ordained.
During the ceremony, Bishop Mar Basilius Yaldo emphasized the significance of the diaconate, underscoring its essence of service, a calling that embodies the qualities of love and humility exemplified by Jesus Christ. He expressed his heartfelt wishes that the newly ordained deacons would be dedicated disciples, following in the footsteps of Jesus and the apostles, drawing inspiration from the exemplary service of Saint Stephen, who fearlessly proclaimed his faith at the cost of his life.
Following the conclusion of the Mass, Father Madian Shamil extended invitations to all attendees to partake in the celebratory gathering held in the church hall, fostering a sense of community and shared joy.
