Late Syriac–Assyrian composer and musicologist Nouri Iskandar’s notated melodies published with support from Benyamin Ardinsh

BETH NAHRIN — In a tribute to the musical legacy of the late Syriac–Assyrian musician Nouri Iskandar, the book “Church Notated Melodies” has been published, featuring a collection of meticulously transcribed compositions for church prayers. The endeavor, generously supported by Syriac–Assyrian merchant Benyamin Ardinsh, aims to honor Iskandar’s memory and provide assistance to his family.

The book, a labor of love and dedication, offers a comprehensive repertoire of church melodies. Its publication marks a significant milestone in preserving and celebrating Iskandar’s contribution to Syriac music.

Ardinsh, who shared a close artistic partnership with Iskandar, expressed his commitment to ensuring that the book’s proceeds directly benefit the musician’s family. “It is a tribute to Nouri’s talent and dedication, and a gesture of solidarity with his loved ones,” remarked Ardinsh.

The book, priced at 300 Swedish kronor, presents an opportunity for enthusiasts to engage with Iskandar’s musical legacy while supporting his family during this challenging time.

As the community commemorates the 40 days since Iskandar’s passing, prayers will be held in churches across several countries, reflecting on his enduring impact on Syriac music and culture.

Iskandar passed away at the age of 85 on Christmas day last year.
