Committee to Address Missing Persons Committee in North and East Syria begins work in Zalin and Hasakah
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Responding to the mandate set forth by the United Nations General Assembly, the Missing Persons Committee (MPC) in North and East Syria announced the commencement of its operations in Zalin (Qamishli) and Hasakah. The MPC issued a heartfelt appeal to families of the missing to avail themselves of the nearest center for assistance.
Established last August by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) in accordance with UN directives, the MPC aims to address the pressing issue of missing individuals in the region. Operating under the purview of the Foreign Relations Commission, the MPC will serve as a crucial mechanism for addressing the issue of missing persons and their families.
Khaled Omar, spokesperson for the Committee, stated that extensive preparatory work has been completed, paving the way for the initiation of operations. The MPC’s primary objective during this phase is to gather comprehensive data and establish a centralized database to facilitate the identification and tracing of missing individuals.
Omar said that the Committee’s outreach will extend beyond Zalin and Haskaha, with plans underway to expand operations to additional aeras of North and East Syria. Branches in Kobane, Raqqa, Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor), Mabbug (Manbij), Cafrin (Afrin), and Al-Shahba are poised to commence operations imminently, underscoring the Committee’s commitment to addressing the issue of missing persons comprehensively across North and East Syria.
