Naoum Faiq House in Zalin, North and East Syria, celebrates fifth anniversary of opening

ZALIN, North and East Syria — In a celebration marking the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Naoum Faiq House for Culture and Art in Zalin (Qamishli), the Syriac Cultural Society paid tribute to the enduring legacy of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) thinker Naoum Faiq, commemorating his profound contributions to culture and intellectual discourse.

The event saw the gathering of representatives from the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo d’Bethnahrin, MUB), alongside members of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community, as well as enthusiasts of culture and the arts.

Opening with a solemn minute of silence in remembrance of martyrs, Ruba Al-Farihat, head of the Naoum Faiq House, delivered a poignant address underscoring the association’s steadfast commitment to revitalizing Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) heritage and nurturing cultural and artistic expression. Al-Farihat highlighted the pivotal role played by Naoum Faiq in reviving Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) culture and preserving its rich tapestry through music, folklore, and heritage.

The house’s choral ensemble enthralled attendees with a captivating rendition of traditional Syriac melodies, setting the stage for a heartfelt message from the Culture and Arts Authority of Gozarto (Jazira) Canton. The authority expressed gratitude to the organizing committee and all contributors for their unwavering dedication to preserving Syriac heritage, extending warm congratulations to all, particularly the Syriac community, for the establishment of the cultural institution amidst challenging times.

The celebration reached its crescendo with the screening of a documentary chronicling the life and works of Naoum Faiq, offering poignant insights into his literary achievements and intellectual pursuits. The festivities concluded with a vibrant performance by the Yarthotha band, showcasing a captivating tableau of Syriac folklore and music, followed by expressions of gratitude to the attendees for their participation and support.
