New branch of High Property Committee opened in Raqqa, North and East Syria, to protect Syriac and Armenian properties

RAQQA, North and East Syria — In a significant step towards safeguarding the interests of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and Armenian communities, a branch of the High Property Committee has been opened in Raqqa, North and East Syria.

Speaking to our news desk, Secretary of the High Property Committee Fadi Jajo underscored the importance of this milestone, marking the establishment of the sixth branch of the Committee in North and East Syria dedicated to protecting the rights of minority communities.

“The defense of Syriac and Armenian properties against encroachments is a paramount objective of the Committee,” stated Jajo, emphasizing the critical role of this initiative in safeguarding the heritage and assets of these communities.

He further elaborated on the Committee’s mission to meticulously document Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and Armenian properties, particularly those belonging to absentees, under a legal mandate, with the aim of facilitating their recovery and restoration in collaboration with the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES).

Armin Mardoian, an administrative official in the Committee, affirmed its commitment to organizing and safeguarding the properties and sacred sites of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and Armenian peoples. He highlighted the collaborative efforts with DAARNES to ensure the restitution of properties to their rightful owners.

Echoing these sentiments, Lawyer Musa al-Khaled, Co-Chair of the People’s Council in Tabqa, emphasized the Committee’s pivotal role in managing and preserving the properties of absentees from the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and Armenian communities. Al-Khaled reiterated the department’s dedication to facilitating the return of diaspora members by ensuring the rightful transfer of properties upon their repatriation.
