Syriac Progressive Youth Union concludes third conference with focus on youth empowerment
ZALIN, North and East Syria — In Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, the Syriac Progressive Youth Union successfully wrapped up its third conference, culminating in the election of a new co-chairship and the issuance of a comprehensive final statement outlining key recommendations.
Under the banner With Work and Knowledge, We Forge Ahead on the Path of Struggle and Freedom Towards a Better Future for Our Youth, the conference underscored the imperative of promoting constructive dialogue and progressive ideals to advance the welfare of youth from the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and other communities. It stressed that democratic and participatory thought serves as the bedrock for realizing the aspirations of the youth and addressing their most pressing issues.
Given that youth are often primary targets of unconventional warfare tactics aimed at societal destabilization, the conference emphasized the importance of understanding youth perspectives and amplifying their voices in public discourse.
Central to the conference’s agenda was the formulation of a national vision for Syria, fostering unity among Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) youth nationwide, and ensuring the active engagement of young women in all facets of union activities. Moreover, the conference highlighted the significance of nurturing a sense of national pride and identity among Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) youth.
The Youth Union resolved to conduct educational lectures, strengthen partnerships with youth organizations, and commemorate significant cultural milestones and events.
The Union reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering the internal cohesion of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) youth in Syria and devising effective solutions to address their most pressing challenges.
Subhi Melki and Julia Bashir emerged as the newly elected co-chairs of the Union.
