Baghdede wedding hall fire tragedy claims yet another victim as young man succumbs to respiratory complications months after fire

BAGHDEDE, Iraq — The tragic wedding hall fire that struck the Nineveh Plains town of Baghdede (Qaraqosh / Hamdaniya), Iraq, in October 2023 continues to claim victims.

Four months after the devastating fire engulfed the Al-Haytham Wedding Hall, claiming the lives of hundreds of Chaldeans–Syriacs–Assyrians, 17-year-old Fadi Adi Wad’a Atallah, succumbed to injuries he sustained from the heavy smoke inhalation during the tragic incident.

Fadi was rushed to Baghdede General Hospital as his respiratory condition deteriorated over the months, ultimately resulting in irreversible damage to his lung cells. His passing marks the addition of another name to the roster of martyrs from the Baghdede, which now stands at 134.

As the community mourns yet another loss, the memory of those who perished in the tragedy remains indelibly etched in the hearts of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people, underscoring the urgent need for measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
