USUP President Ibrahim Mrad criticizes Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian’s assertion linking security of Lebanon and Iran, urges international action against Hezbollah
BEIRUT — In response to Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian’s assertion linking Lebanon’s security to Iran’s, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) and Secretary-General of the Christian Front Ibrahim Mrad, condemned the statement as brazen and undiplomatic, stressing its unacceptability.
“Abdollahian’s visit in the region discussed the strategy of war and conditions for peace. However, his impudent statement that Lebanon’s security is related Iran’s security is a greatest violation and insult to Lebanon’s sovereignty and dignity of Lebanese people,” Mrad stated via Facebook.
According to Mrad, Abdollahian’s remarks imply Iranian control over Lebanon, reducing its people to mere pawns in conflicts unrelated to their interests.
“Iranian control makes Lebanese people an advanced negotiating card in the negotiations for the Iranian regime’s benefit which is destroying Lebanon and the countries of the region, through starvation, terrorism and destruction,” Mrad added.
As Lebanon prepares to mark the 19th anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri and his companions, Mrad called upon Iranian-backed Hezbollah to surrender those implicated in the assassination, advocating for justice and healing for the Lebanese people.
Mrad emphasized that the continued presence of internationally condemned perpetrators, emboldened by Iranian support, underscores the urgent need for international intervention to dismantle Hezbollah’s arsenal and restore Lebanon’s sovereignty. He urged unity among the Lebanese people in demanding the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1559 to safeguard Lebanon from Iranian occupation and terrorism.
“Anyone in the homeland and abroad who does not respond to this solution is a conspirator and accomplice of Iran and its terrorist project,” Mrad concluded.
