Chaldean Cultural Society advocates for Syriac language preservation on International Mother Language Day

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — On International Mother Language Day, the Chaldean Cultural S emphasized the pivotal role of languages in fostering linguistic diversity and bolstering sustainable development.

Highlighting the profound cultural heritage and ancient lineage of the Syriac language, the Society underscored its significance as a component of the Semitic linguistic legacy.

Moreover, the Society underscored the profound influence of the Syriac language on Arabic language and culture in the Levant and Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia), notwithstanding the hurdles encountered.

Advocating for expanded efforts to integrate Syriac into both public and private school curricula, the Society called for enhanced support for Syriac language education initiatives targeting adults.

In light of the ongoing technological advancements, the Society urged the development of digital content in Syriac, including educational applications and programs.

Additionally, it appealed to all relevant stakeholders, including governments, cultural institutions, and community organizations, to collaborate in safeguarding the future of the Syriac language and ensuring its transmission to forthcoming generations.
