USUP President Ibrahim Mrad extends well wishes to global Syriac community on International Mother Language Day
BEIRUT — On International Mother Language Day, Ibrahim Mrad, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon and Secretary General of the Christian Front, conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.
Mrad began his address by paying tribute to the Syriac language, which has endured severe marginalization and concerted efforts to erase it.
He also expressed admiration for all those dedicated to preserving the vitality and presence of the Syriac language, emphasizing its significance as the language of Eastern Christians.
Highlighting the foundational role of the Syriac language in the development of numerous other languages, some of which have achieved international recognition, Mrad underscored its invaluable contributions to global culture and civilization.
Mrad emphasized that the resilience and determination of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people surpass all efforts aimed at eradicating their language.
Furthermore, Mrad called upon Christians of all denominations to unite in solidarity to revive the Syriac language, integrating it into school curricula and daily life. He envisioned a future where the Syriac language would be embraced as a national language across the world, restoring its ancient glory from millennia past.
“We will not abandon the Syriac language, because it is the language of Christ and is sacred,” Mrad stressed, noting that abandoning any language means abandoning identity, and therefore abandoning existence and history, the present and the future.
