Syriac–Assyrian parties call for justice and unity on anniversary of ISIS invasion of Khabur
TEL TAMR, North and East Syria — During the commemoration of the 9th anniversary of the invasion of the Khabur River Valley in North and East Syria by the Islamic State (ISIS) organized by the Coordination Committee of Syriac-Assyrian Nationalist Political Parties, Afram Ishaq, a member of the Executive Committee of the Syriac Union Party (SUP), urged for the revelation of the fate of those who went missing during the invasion. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening unity among the national parties.
Ishaq highlighted the courageous resistance of the fighters from the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulhoyo Suryoyo, MFS) against the terrorism of ISIS, ensuring the safety of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Syriac) people in their areas.
Gabriel Moshe, an official of the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO), recounted the tragic events of civilian killings, displacements, and the destruction of Syriac churches in Khabur.
Moshe remarked, “The continued presence of the Assyrian people here serves as testament to their determination to assert their rights and confront all forms of terrorism, dictatorships, and demographic changes.”
Wael Mirza, an official of the Assyrian Democratic Party, emphasized the significance of the 9th anniversary of the barbaric invasion, asserting that it demonstrates the resilience of the Syriac people against attempts by ISIS to displace them from their land.
Mirza pledged to collaborate through the Coordination Committee to reconstruct and revitalize the villages of the Khabur.
