Tree-planting campaign launched in Tel Tamr, North and East Syria, to honor martyrs of ISIS invasion
TEL TAMR, North and East Syria — In commemoration of the 9th anniversary of the Islamic State (ISIS) invasion of the Khabur River Valley, the People’s Municipality of Tel Tamr launched a tree-planting campaign in honor of those who valiantly confronted the extremist incursion in 2015.
The commemoratory event plans to plant 1,025 trees throughout the town, symbolizing resilience and renewal in the face of adversity.
The campaign garnered widespread support, with active participation from various sectors of society, including civil society organizations, tribal leaders, political representatives, municipal officials, families of martyrs, and local residents.
Reflecting on the significance of the initiative, Wael Mirza, a key figure in the Assyrian Democratic Party (ADP), emphasized the profound significance of 23 February for the communities of Khabur. He stressed that reclaiming Tel Tamr’s verdant landscape serves as a poignant rebuttal to the dark legacy of terrorism, epitomized by the black flags of ISIS.
Mirza lauded the collaborative efforts of Tel Tamr’s diverse populace, encompassing Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean), Arab, and Kurdish communities, united in their shared endeavor to rejuvenate and revitalize their beloved district.
