Co-Chair elections held as Syriac Union Party concludes 4th conference

ZALIN, North and East Syria — The 4th Conference of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) concluded in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, with the election of Co-Chairs and SUP Council members.

According to our news desk correspondent, Sanharib Barsom and Shamiram Danho were elected as Co-Chairs. The newly elected SUP Co-Chairs and all the new Council members were sworn in during the conference.

The SUP Conference also included discussions on the articles and items of the party’s bylaws.

The conference commenced on Sunday morning and was attended by representatives of institutions of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES). Representatives of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO), the Assyrian Democratic Party (Zowaa), and institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) were also present.

The conference began with a minute of silence for the souls of martyrs, followed by the party’s anthem. Barsom delivered the opening speech in Syriac, while the former SUP Co-Chair Nazira Goreya delivered a speech in Arabic.

Barsom emphasized the party’s commitment to preserving the achievements of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, strengthening relationships among all components of the Syrian people, and working towards building a future Syria characterized by democracy, pluralism, and decentralization.

The speeches reiterated the party’s dedication to safeguarding the gains of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, fostering unity among all ethnic components of the Syrian populace, and striving for a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.

Co-Chair of the Legislative Council of the Gozarto (Jazira) Canton Hikmat Habib, also delivered a speech highlighting the sacrifices made by the Syriac (people in defense of the region’s freedom.
