European Syriac Union condemns Turkish drone attack on Sutoro, calls for international action

BRUSSELS — The European Syriac Union (ESU) strongly condemned the repeated Turkish attacks on North and East Syria, the most recent of which martyred three members of the Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro), urging the international community to oppose Turkey’s destabilizing actions in the region.

Highlighting the pivotal role of all Syrian components, including Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans), Armenians, Arabs, Kurds, and others, as well as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in defeating the Islamic State (ISIS), the ESU emphasized their instrumental efforts in capturing key foreign ISIS fighters linked to attacks in Brussels and Paris.

The statement emphasized that the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and SDF pose no threat to Turkey, maintaining transparent relations with neighboring countries. However, Turkish attacks in northern Syria have resulted in severe humanitarian and environmental catastrophes.

To halt Turkish aggression, the ESU called on the international community, including the European Union, United States, and democratic voices worldwide, to intervene decisively against Turkey’s destructive policies.

Additionally, the European Syriac Union dispatched messages denouncing the Turkish occupation to thousands of European and American dignitaries, officials from various nations, as well as to the United Nations. More than 700 letters were distributed to representatives in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, and other entities.

Fahmi Virgili, Co-Chair of the ESU, confirmed the dissemination of letters to American representatives and officials at the United Nations, NATO, and the Vatican.

These messages urged the concerned authorities and representatives to oppose Turkey’s belligerent policies towards North and East Syria and northern Iraq, demanding an end to the atrocities perpetrated against the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and other communities.
