Kurdistan National Congress and Kurdistan Communities Union denounce Turkish attack on Sutoro, urge global action
BRUSSELS — The Kurdistan National Congress (Kongreya Neteweyî ya Kurdistanê, KNK) issued a statement condemning Turkey’s attack on the Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) that martyred three Sutoro members in Dayrik (Derik / Malikiyah), North and East Syria. The KNK urged immediate international intervention to halt Turkish aggression and prevent further atrocities in the region.
The KNK Executive Council decried the targeting of members of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community and expressed solidarity and heartfelt condolences to the affected families.
Turkey’s aggressive actions aim to undermine the region’s hard-won democratic achievements founded on principles of equality and pluralism, it stated.
Calling upon local and international political entities, the KNK urged immediate action from the US-led International Coalition, the European Union, and the United Nations to curb Turkish aggression, thwart impending massacres, and safeguard the region’s demographic integrity.
The Co-Chair of the Executive Council of Kurdistan Communities Union (Koma Civakên Kurdistanê, KCK) also condemned the Turkish attack on Sutoro, reaffirming solidarity with the martyrs and urging continued resistance to defend their homeland.
It paid homage to the fallen heroes of Sutoro and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of the democratic revolution.
Condemning the policies of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the National Movement Party (MHP) government in Turkey as genocidal, the statement expressed solidarity with the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, an ancient and indigenous people of Mesopotamia who have endured numerous atrocities at the hands of the Turkish and other governments and powers.
Through the revolutionary spirit of North and East Syria, the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people have reclaimed their freedom, revitalizing their language, culture, religion, and heritage, while fortifying their resolve alongside other communities, said the KCK.
This assertion of identity and autonomy is a threat to the Turkish government’s oppressive policies which seek to subjugate the region’s peoples, it continued.
