Syriac Women’s Center in Turkey celebrates International Women’s Day in Tur Abdin
MEDYAD, Turkey — The Syriac Women’s Center in Turkey (Süryani Kadın Derneği Üyesi, SÜRKADİM) organized an event to celebrate International Women’s Day at the Akitu Hotel in the city Medyad (Midyat), Turkey, in the historic region of Tur Abdin.
The event brought together 170 women, children, and men from the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) villages of Tur Abdin, fostering a positive atmosphere throughout.
Following the event’s commencement, Theodora Hobil delivered a speech on behalf of the association in Syriac, while Dr. Aidat Jebo addressed the audience in Turkish, emphasizing the significance of commemorating this day.
Talita Bazu, a candidate for the Municipal Elections, shared her motivations for running and outlined her goals as a Syriac woman candidate in the Turkish municipal elections.
The proceeds from the event were allocated to support the earthquake victims in Antioch (Antakya), with attendees generously donating to assist the affected individuals through the association’s relief efforts.
