Annual Syriac art exhibition held in Nineveh Plains celebrating language and culture

KARAMLESH, Iraq — In a collaborative effort between the General Directorate of Syriac Studies and educational departments in Nineveh Governorate, the annual art exhibition showcasing drawing, calligraphy, and decoration in the Syriac language opened in the Nineveh Plains town of Karamlesh.

Under the auspices of Minister of Education Ibrahim Namis al-Jubouri, and with the presence of Imad Salem Jajo, the General Director of Syriac Studies, the event epitomized a commitment to preserving and promoting the richness of Syriac culture.

Jajo underscored the significance of upholding the Syriac language as a vital aspect of cultural heritage, emphasizing its enduring relevance in the Karamlesh district and surrounding historical areas inhabited by Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian communities.

The exhibition showcased a vibrant array of artwork, including paintings and decorative pieces crafted by students from Syriac language schools. Attendees were treated to recitations of poetry and hymns in the Syriac language, highlighting the artistic prowess and linguistic prowess of the community.

In recognition of his instrumental role in organizing the exhibition, Professor Talal Abbou Mansour, Principal of Karamlesh Secondary School, was honored with the Shield of Excellence. His dedication and leadership were instrumental in ensuring the success of the event, which served as a testament to the enduring spirit of Syriac culture and education.
