Syriac Maronite Patriarch al-Rai advocates for Lebanon’s neutrality, calls once again for election of president

BETH KERKE, Lebanon — During Mass at the Patriarchal Edifice in Beth Kerke (Bkerke), Lebanon, Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rai emphasized the imperative for Lebanon to remain neutral and safeguard its citizens amidst global conflicts.

Patriarch al-Rai underscored the grave consequences of war, lamenting the plight of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of conflict and urging protection for the people of south Lebanon. He reiterated the pressing need for Lebanon to swiftly elect a new President, urging the reorganization of constitutional institutions to ensure stability.

Expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Patriarch condemned the violence and bloodshed in Gaza, urging the international community to intervene and halt the conflict.

In a call to action for Lebanon’s leaders, the Patriarch urged humility, accountability, and cooperation to address the country’s economic and financial crisis. He called for political officials to prioritize the nation’s interests over personal agendas, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective effort in ensuring Lebanon’s security and prosperity.
