Badran Jia Kurd: UN recent report lacks recommendations to hold the perpetrators against Syrians accountable

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On 11 March, the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Syria reported that the Turkish attacks on infrastructure and citizens in North and East Syria amount to war crimes and violate international humanitarian law.

Co-Chairs of the Foreign Relations Commission in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) Badran Jia Kurd stated that the report lacks recommendations to hold the perpetrators accountable, stressing that the report was supposed to include recommendations to try the perpetrators in international courts.

Jia Kurd held the international forces responsible for the dossier of families of the Islamic State (ISIS), noting that ISIS dossier is the responsibility of all, not only the DAARNES responsibility.

Jia Kurd stressed that the DAARNES reiterates its appeals to the UN and international forces to assume their responsibilities regarding ISIS elements and their families in the DAARNES camps.

Jia Kurd criticized the UN report for not addressing the situation of the forcibly displaced people from their areas in the DAARNES camps, noting that the forcibly displaced people face harsher conditions that need humanitarian intervention.
