Katrin Örs makes history as Sweden’s first female pilot of Syriac origin
STOCKHOLM — Katrin Örs, hailing from the historic Tur Abdin region in what is now southeastern Turkey, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming Sweden’s first Syriac woman pilot.
Reflecting on her groundbreaking role, Örs expressed her passion for aviation and the fulfillment she finds in her work.
A 36-year-old resident of Solna from a Syriac family from Tur Abdin, Örs has had a remarkable career trajectory.
Her journey into aviation began at the age of 6, during a family trip to Germany in 1993, where she boarded a Scandinavian plane, igniting her fascination with flying.
Following her studies, Örs had planned to enlist in the Swedish Air Force to pursue flying but ultimately decided against it due to concerns from her family. She would eventually take on ground-crew roles until she acquired the skills to fly. In 2018, Örs began flight school and is currently a First Officer with XFly.
