Administration of North and East Syria marks 6th Anniversary of Turkish invasion and occupation of Cafrin
CAFRIN, Syria — On the 6th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cafrin (Afrin), the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) reaffirmed its commitment to reclaiming the strategic region.
In a statement, DAARNES condemned the circumstances that led to Cafrin falling under Turkish control, labeling it as the outcome of conspiracy and deals between various forces and parties. They noted the detrimental effects of this situation, which allowed the resurgence of extremist factions like the Islamic State (ISIS) and Al-Nusra.
Accusing Turkey of orchestrating violations and demographic changes in Cafrin, DAARNES emphasized that the Turkish occupation undermines Syria’s unity and the rights of its people.
Asserting their determination to liberate Cafrin and facilitate the return of its displaced population, DAARNES declared that a solution to the Syrian conflict cannot be achieved without Turkey’s withdrawal from the region.
Furthermore, they called for the establishment of an international commission of inquiry to investigate the situation in Cafrin, document human rights violations, and hold responsible parties, including Turkish officials, accountable for their actions.
