Mosul begins reconstruction of artifacts destroyed by ISIS
MOSUL, Iraq — In 2015, during the Islamic State’s (ISIS) control over Mosul, Iraq, footage circulated showing the organization’s vandalism of Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian artifacts.
Now, Mosul is witnessing the reconstruction and restoration of these artifacts. Ziad Saadallah, an official of the Mosul Directorate of Artifacts and Heritage, reported that the Directorate is undertaking the restoration of artifacts and archaeological areas destroyed by ISIS.
Saadallah emphasized that while the world expressed sadness over the destruction of artifacts by ISIS, there is renewed hope with the Directorate’s projects. They are committed to working diligently to revive the destroyed places and preserve the cultural heritage of Mosul for future generations.
