Torrential rains causes catastrophic flooding in Nohadra, displacing 300 families and killing 3 people

NOHADRA, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — At the request of the President of Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), Nechervan Barzani, 117 apartments were distributed to those affected by floods in Nohadra (Duhok) over the past two days.

Barzani directed Governor of Nohadra Ali Tatar to take all measures to protect the lives of residents and provide urgent assistance and compensation to those affected following intense rains and floods.

Tatar announced that over the past two days, former president Masoud Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani were in contact to help the victims of floods as soon as possible, pointing out that authorities have been instructed to compensate those affected by the floods by providing apartments and financial assistance to furnish them with all the supplies.

The torrential rains in the KRI caused the death of 3 people in Nohadra and displaced 300 families from their homes. Infrastructure damage was widespread across the region.

Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia al-Sudani also instructed the Joint Operations Center and the Crisis and Disaster Center at the Iraqi Ministry of Interior to provide all the required support and relief support to the victims of Nohadra.
