Australian MPs support a resolution to recognize the 1915 Sayfo Genocide
SYDNEY – In early 2020, institutions of the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian), Armenian and Greek peoples announced the formation of a committee under the supervision of the Australian Parliament to support the dossier of the 1915 Genocide, through a 2020 Memorandum of Understanding and a Joint Justice Initiative.
19 Australian MPs submitted a petition, and 9 of them will be selected to debate this dossier.
Last year, 47 MPs approved a request to recognize the Sayfo Genocide.
An Armenian official in Australia stressed the need to recognize the Genocide for the sake of justice and truth, as well as to restore the rights of the peoples who were subjected to the 1915 Genocide.
In 2020, an event was held for 100 Australian MPs, Australian Foreign Ministry officials, governmental officials and politicians, academics and media outlets to demand recognition of the Sayfo Genocide.
