Abnaa al-Nahrain political party in Iraq dissolves itself ahead of unification with Zowaa
NOHADRA, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — During its 3rd General Conference in Nohadra (Duhok), Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political party Abnaa al-Nahrain announced its dissolution in a bid to further the unification of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian national agenda.
The Conference, which convened with over 130 delegates from Iraqi provinces and the diaspora, was overseen by a committee from the Nohadra Office of the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq and the Department of Political Parties’ Affairs.
Dignitaries from various Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian political parties, alongside leaders of the Abnaa al-Nahrain party and conference delegates, were in attendance.
During the conference, Tuma Khoshaba, a member of the Abnaa al-Nahrain leadership, delivered a speech on behalf of the Conference Preparatory Committee, emphasizing that the dissolution aims to continue the consolidation of the two Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa) factions. He lauded the constructive role of the Zowaa’s leadership in this unity endeavor, highlighting genuine intentions and will.
The Conference elected its presidium to oversee further proceedings. Bassim Ballo, Head of the Abnaa al-Nahrain Party, presented the Conference’s political report, followed by a vote on the dissolution of the party, marking a legal step preceding the reintegration and unification with Zowaa.
The party’s statement hailed the decision to dissolve as an unconventional yet significant organizational milestone, heralding a pivotal moment in the history of national activism within the homeland. It underscored the belief that a party is a means to achieve a goal, not an end in itself, hence the dissolution in service of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people.
A delegation from the Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo d’Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA), including Muna Hanna from the HBA Political Bureau and Gabriel Shamoun from the HBA Executive Bureau, participated in the Conference, conveying the HBA’s message via telegram.
