2,000 Iraqi families return home from Al-Hol Camp in North and East Syria

AL-HOL, Syria — Through cooperation between the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DARNES) and the Iraqi government, Iraqi Minister of Migration and Displacement Evan Jabro Yacoub announced that 2,000 Iraqi families have returned from the Al-Hol camp in North and East Syria to their homeland.

She stated that the return of Iraqi families from the Al-Hol camp is being facilitated through joint efforts by the government and the Security Committee. She added that while the government rejects forced displacement, security services are monitoring the situation of returnees from Al-Hol Camp periodically.

Yacoub reported, “A rehabilitation process is underway for families returning from Al-Hol Camp, especially for children and women.”

Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasem al-Araji confirmed that approximately 1924 Iraqi families have been repatriated from Al-Hol Camp to date.
