Al-Raha Foundation for Syriac Music and Heritage celebrates 30th anniversary in Zalin, North and East Syria
ZALIN, North and East Syria — On Sunday, the Al-Raha Foundation for Syriac Music and Heritage commemorated its 30th anniversary with a vibrant cultural event in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria. Al-Raha is the Arabic name for the city of Urfa (Şanlıurfa). The occasion featured folk music and dance performances showcasing the rich heritage of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.
The event drew the participation of esteemed guests, including the Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih, priests, members of the Local Church Council, and a large gathering of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community.
During the event, Al-Raha official Shamoun Thomas delivered a speech reflecting on the history and accomplishments of the foundation since its establishment in 1994. He expressed hope for the return of Syriac expatriate artists to their homeland to further enrich Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) art and thanked all those who have supported Al-Raha’s work.
Archbishop Amsih addressed the audience, praising Al-Raha’s significant role in preserving and promoting Syriac art and heritage over the past three decades. He emphasized the importance of transmitting this cultural legacy to future generations to ensure its preservation.
In recognition of their dedication and contributions, commemorative shields were presented by Al-Raha head Dr. Aweys Asaad, members of the Local Church Council, and Archbishop Amsih to members of Al-Raha at the conclusion of the event.
