Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in Syria to begin preparations for Akitu New Year celebration
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — As the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year, known as Akitu and celebrated on 1 April, approaches, the Coordination and Consultation Committee of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) political parties in Syria announced celebratory events in several towns and villages.
Celebrated since the ancient times of Babylon, this year will mark the 6,774th Akitu.
The Coordination and Consultation Committee, comprising the Syriac Union Party (SUP), the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO), and the Assyrian Democratic Party (Zowaa), cordially invited all members of the community to join in commemorating this significant national holiday.
Three celebrations are scheduled for 1 April, taking place in the villages of Karshiran in the Qabre Hewore (Qahtaniyah) countryside, Tel Wardiyat in the Khabur River Valley, and Hakmiyeh in the Dayrik (Derik / Hamdaniyah) countryside. These events are organized to honor the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.
