Syriac Union Party extends Akitu greetings, advocates for Syrian unity
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In commemoration of Akitu, the Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year, the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria issued a statement celebrating the occasion and reaffirming the resilience of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in preserving their heritage and values.
The SUP extended warm wishes to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community and the Syrian people as a whole, expressing hopes for peace, security, and the realization of democratic aspirations. It emphasized the importance of freedom, democracy, and the eradication of terrorism and tyranny for all Syrians, advocating for the full rights and coexistence of all components within the nation.
Highlighting the significance of unity among diverse communities, the SUP stressed the need for collective participation in building systems and cultures that uphold freedoms and rights. It pointed to the example set by the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, who, alongside Kurds and Arabs, have contributed to the establishment of democratic self-governance in North and East Syria.
The party reiterated its commitment to pursuing the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and all Syrians through various means, pledging to honor the sacrifices of martyrs in the pursuit of freedom and the construction of a pluralistic, democratic Syria founded on principles of justice and equality.
