Explosive device found in residential area of Rmaich, Lebanon

RMAICH, Lebanon — Southern Lebanon has witnessed several attempts to disrupt the stability of the region, amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Lebanon has found itself embroiled in this conflict through actions by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, leading to exchanges of fire with the Israeli Army in the region.

Following an incident where three UNIFIL members and a Lebanese translator were injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Rmaich area, another alarming discovery was made. A 12 kg IED, primed for detonation, was uncovered near the Sky Plaza Resort in Rmaich.

The vigilant actions of a local resident led to the discovery of the IED, concealed inside a bucket within a plastic bag. Promptly reporting the finding to the Lebanese Army, they swiftly moved to dismantle the device, averting a potential catastrophe.

The IED was planted dangerously close to residential areas, posing a grave threat to civilian lives. This discovery has underscored the growing unease among Rmaich residents, who strongly condemn Hezbollah’s practice of storing weapons and missiles amidst civilian homes. Such actions not only endanger innocent lives but also expose civilians to the risk of Israeli airstrikes.

Despite these challenges, the Lebanese Army’s swift response and the vigilance of local residents have played a crucial role in preventing potential harm and maintaining security in the region.
