Assyrian Bishop stabbed during church service in Sydney, Australia

SYDNEY — In a shocking incident, Assyrian Church of the East Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was attacked and stabbed during a church service at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Sydney Australia. The assault was captured on video as the service was being streamed online.

The incident occurred while Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was conducting the service at the church. Video footage revealed the Bishop being attacked on the altar, sending shock and panic through both the physical congregation and those watching remotely.

Eyewitnesses informed the media that worshippers in the church prevented the police from entering the scene of the incident before disarming the attacker by cutting off his fingers.

Sydney authorities have confirmed that one man has been arrested in connection with the attack. Fortunately, there were no fatalities among those injured during the attack. Bishop Mar Mari is currently receiving treatment for his injuries, as confirmed by the New South Wales police force. The hospital stated that the Bishop’s condition is stable but provided no further information.

Bishop Emmanuel was born in 1970 in Anbar, Iraq. He immigrated with his parents to Australia at the age of 13.
