Killing of Lebanese Forces officials Pascal Suleiman sparks anti-Syrian attacks in Lebanon

BEIRUT — Following the kidnapping and murder of Lebanese Forces party Coordinator for Jbeil (Byblos) Pascal Suleiman by a group of four Syrians, Lebanon has seen a surge in hostility towards Syrians, endangering their safety, prompting violations, and even forced deportations. Syrian workers and individuals face attacks across various regions, exacerbating tensions.

Amidst this turmoil, Abdul Salam Ahmed, representing the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) in Lebanon engaged with Christian political parties, urging for calm in the wake of the violence. Ahmed emphasized that scapegoating Syrians for Lebanon’s challenges is counterproductive and does not serve the nation’s interests.

Ahmed also highlighted DAARNES’s initiative to welcome Syrian refugees from Lebanon, demonstrating readiness to provide refuge. While the Lebanese government initially expressed support, implementation hurdles remain, requiring coordination with the Syrian government and relevant international organizations.
