Assyrian Democratic Movement in Sweden commemorates 45th anniversary

NORSBORG, Sweden — The branch of the Assyrian Democratic Movement in Sweden marked its 45th anniversary and the commencement of its national activities with a vibrant celebration at the Ashur Club (Assur Föreningen) in Norsborg, Sweden.

The event, attended by representatives from various parties and institutions, commenced with a solemn moment of silence honoring the martyrs of the movement and the sacrifices made for the freedom of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

Amidst speeches, songs, and heartfelt telegrams, the event saw performances by renowned artists like Anuya Khamou and Ninib Abdel Ahad, who captivated the audience with their melodies. Poet Sabri Ishou also paid tribute to the founding of the movement with a moving poem.

Distinguished guests, including representatives from the Bethnahrin National Council, the Assyrian Democratic Organization, and the Assyrian Women’s Union, were in attendance. Secretary-General Jacob Korkis emphasized the importance of unity among Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) political parties, echoed by European Parliament representative Ilhan Basso, who pledged unwavering support for collaborative efforts.

In a touching gesture, Daniel Shabo from the Bethnahrin National Council presented flowers and warm wishes to the Assyrian Democratic Movement, underscoring solidarity within the community.

The festivities concluded with the resonant melodies of folk songs and the distribution of sweets, symbolizing the joyous spirit marking the anniversary of the Assyrian Democratic Movement’s founding.
