Delegation of Syriac Women’s Union in Syria visits Baghdede, Iraq
BAGHDEDE, Iraq — After participating in the conference of Bethnahrin Women’s Union (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB) held in Baghdede, Nineveh Plain in Iraq, a delegation from Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) in Syria conducted a series of visits to political parties, institutions and officials in the Nineveh Plain.
The visits aimed at consolidating relations and introducing the SWU work.
The SWU delegation visited the Baghdede Mayor Essam Behnam Matti, Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) and Beth Nahrain Organization for Women (BNOW), as well as a number of monasteries in the area.
The SWU delegation was briefed about situation of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian women in the Nineveh Plain.
The delegation, in turn, showcased the situation of the Syriac women in Syria within the Democratic Autonomous Administration in the region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), as well as the SWU work to empower women.
The Baghdede Mayor spoke about the situation of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people in Baghdede, the persecution they suffered during the control of the Islamic State (ISIS), in addition to the Baghdede fire tragedy. He also touched on how Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people can return and rebuild their homes.
He also highlighted what has been done to preserve the property of Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people from tampering and demographic change, as well as securing the necessities and livelihood to keep them in their historical homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).
The SWU delegation also participated in a series of HNB-BNOW seminars about situation of Syriac women in the Nineveh Plain.
The delegation highlighted women assumption of administrative and decision-making positions in the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council in Syria National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) and the DAARNES.
