Dozens of Syrian political parties demand end to Turkish attacks in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, urge global action
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In a unified call for peace, 33 political parties and blocs in North and East Syria, including the Syriac Union Party (SUP), convened to demand an immediate halt to Turkish aggression in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). The joint statement, delivered in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, underscored the urgent need to end the Turkish military campaign and advocate for a fair and democratic resolution to the Kurdish issue in Turkey.
Urging both the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to reject the Turkish incursions, the parties emphasized the importance of unified resistance against external aggression. Furthermore, they called upon Kurdish communities worldwide to mobilize and leverage global public opinion to thwart Turkish assaults.
Condemning the Turkey’s authoritarian agenda, the parties decried its flagrant disregard for the rights of peoples and the sovereignty of nations. They underscored Turkey’s role as a destabilizing force in the region, highlighting its support for terrorist organizations and its divisive tactics aimed at fostering conflict and occupation.
The parties lamented Turkey’s egregious violations of international norms, including the use of banned weapons to suppress Kurdish aspirations for justice and autonomy. With a steadfast commitment to solidarity and resistance, they vowed to continue advocating for the rights and dignity of the people of the KRI in the face of adversity.
