Educational camp for Assyrian youth in Sweden
JÖNKÖPING, Sweden — The Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO), in cooperation with the Assyrian Youth in Sweden, held an educational camp in Habo in Jönköping, from 19 to 21 April, 2024.
The main topic of the educational camp was politics and the importance of involvement in political parties in Europe.
About 40 Syriac youth from several Swedish cities participated in the event.
The camp first lecture was given by political activist Abjar Gawrieyh, who spoke about the importance of youth involvement in national political organizations of the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people, as well as enhancing cooperation between organizations in the diaspora and homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).
The second lecture was delivered by Member of the European Parliament MP Ilan De Basso, who spoke about the opportunities and mechanisms available to influence European Union policy.
De Basso also stressed the importance of being politically involved and called on Syriac youth to join Swedish political parties.
