President of Universal Syriac Union Party in Lebanon Ibrahim Mrad calls for a public national day for the 1915 Sayfo Genocide

BEIRUT — President of Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon Ibrahim Mrad called on the Lebanese parliament to approve a public national day in honor for the 1915 Sayfo Genocide, during which 750,000 Syriacs (Arameans-Chaldeans-Assyrians) martyrs, one and a half million Armenians, 250,000 Syriac-Maronites and other Christians of Mount Lebanon, as well as thousands of Pontic-Greeks were killed.

Mrad called on all parties to support this demand to prevent the Genocide recurrence.

He also thanked all the popular, religious and political authorities that participated in the USUP event about the Sayfo Genocide commemoration last Saturday.

Mrad also pledged to continue the struggle with all the peoples who were subjected to the Sayfo Genocide in order to achieve justice, through continued pressure to recognize the Genocide and hold the perpetrators accountable.
