Suroyo Media Foundation condemns Belgian police raid on Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV
BRUSSELS — The Suroyo Media Foundation issued a statement condemning the Belgian security target of the Kurdish Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV, and the silencing the free voice of the Kurdish people.
“Such raids on homes and media centers in Turkey, Belgium and France are anti-democratic and against the free thought. Silencing the press and TV channels is a blow to European values,” read the Suroyo statement.
The statement added that serving Turkey’s policy of oppressing peoples and covering up Turkish military operations harms human rights, warning that the response of European countries to Turkey’s demands will pave the way for new genocides.
Suroyo stressed that abandoning such raids, which contradict the laws recently passed by the European Union, to promote press freedom and secure rights, would be an important modern step against dictatorial regimes.
“We condemn the anti-democratic stance taken by the Belgian authorities, and we call on showing solidarity with the Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV, as well as journalists detained in Turkey,” the Suroyo statement concluded.
